Jan. 8 - I don't feel like writing today. That happens sometimes. This time it's probably because I finished The Hunchback of Notre-Dame yesterday and it depressed holy hell out of me.

What makes it even worse is that the only other English-language novel that I had in the apartment and haven't already read was Hardy's The Return of the Native, which I cracked last night. I've read his other major novels, so I had a pretty good idea what to expect. And yet I went ahead and started it anyway.

Note to self: don't read Hugo and Hardy back-to-back in the middle of the long, dark, cold Danish winter. Not without Prozac.

It's Commonwealth Day in the Northern Marianas, though, so forget about my incipient depression—get out your party hats and kick up your heels!

Happy Thursday.
