DAILY BRIEFINGThe Moron's Daily Briefing
Mar. 5 - It was on this date in 1946, in a speech at Fulton, Missouri, that Winston Churchill made his famous observation that, "From Stettin in the Baltic to Trieste in the Adriatic, an Iron Curtain has descended across the continent."
The speech was not well received at first, as the people of Fulton weren't sure which continent he was talking about and they didn't care what sort of drapes were fashionable in foreign parts.
Andy Gibb turns 55 today, unless he's the one that died, in which case he no longer shares his birthday with Dean Stockwell (1936) and Rex Harrison (1908).
Today is Failed Coup Day in Equatorial Guinea, which pretty much kills the old couplet:
Treason doth never prosper; what's the reason?
For if it prosper, none dare call it treason.
(That's from Sir John Harrington, 1561-1612.)
It's National Chief's Day in Vanuatu. Excited Vanuatu restaurant workers please note: it is not National Chef's Day.
That's in September.
